Akupunktura in TKM za sprožitev poroda in kaj pričakovati?
Glavni cilj akupunkture ni prisiliti telo v porod, temveč pripraviti um in telo na lažji porod.

Acupuncture and TCM For Easy Labour
Traditional Chinese Medicine advocates the use of acupuncture to soften the cervix and induce uterine contractions. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points of the body and it helps women who would like to avoid medical or surgical interventions in childbirth. A recent study suggested that acupuncture reduces the rate of labour induction in prolonged pregnancy at 41 + 5 weeks. Moreover, acupuncture also seems to be able to reduce oxytocin use; such a “saving” effect could play a role in childhood, considering that a recent study underlined the adverse effect of oxytocin on birth outcomes. [1]
Acupuncture and TCM to induce labour and what to expect?
The primary objective of acupuncture for easy labour is to prepare the mind and body for childbirth, instead of forcing a birth.
At AKU ENERGIJA, we recommend an initial visit around the 35th week of pregnancy. During the first consultation, the acupuncturist will ask questions about the pregnancy, such as what position the baby is in? How many weeks pregnant? Are there any accompanying symptoms or difficulties such as pain, sleeplessness, digestive upset, etc? We always want to treat you as a whole person, because if you’re feeling more relaxed and comfortable, the baby is more likely to interpret that as the environment is safe to come into.
If the patient is experiencing some weakness or symptoms that requires attention, herbal mixture and dietary adjustment are recommended a few weeks prior to the prebirth acupuncture.
If the baby is in a breech position, we will provide care immediately or else the baby is too big at 37 weeks which makes it harder to move. Usually moxibustion will be used. It is a technique of burning a herb called mugsworth, dried and rolled into a cigar shape. The moxa stick is burned and pointed over certain acupoints where both the heat and the herb get to work. Sometimes we will suggest the patient to continue doing moxa at home to maximize the effect.
Prebirth acupuncture starts around 37 or 38 weeks for 1 session per week until 40 to 41 week. Needles will be put around the feet, ankle, hand, shoulder and lower back while the patient is lying in a comfortable position. It’s normal to feel dull, heavy, achy sensations at the points (or a gentle tapping sensation for the electro-acupuncture), but everything is done within your comfort levels.
If the patient has passed the due date, we would recommend a biweekly treatment or herbal foot bath at home.
Safety and contraindications of Acupuncture for easy labour
A systematic review was done to investigate the safety of acupuncture during pregnancy and found that acupuncture during pregnancy is safe for mothers and babies when correctly used. [2] Please note that acupuncture is not a form of service but a professional form of treatment. We could reject acupuncture for women who are unfit or might have risks for serious complications like high blood pressure, epilepsy, bleeding problems, etc. Some of the unfit conditions can be improved by TCM herbal prescription, they are well tested and show effectiveness over the years of practice at AKU ENERGIJA.
Commonly used acupoints
The acupuncture points listed below are used for labor induction by qualified acupuncturists only:
BL67 – located on the little toe near the edge of the nail, and used to stimulate contractions
LI4 – found in the thick part of the muscle between the thumb and index finger; it stimulates contractions and bearing down
SP6 – found above the ankle on the outside of the leg; this point encourages the cervix to ripen
GV20 – located in the middle of the head; this point lifts energy but is also calming.
