Akupunktura, ki je v tradicionalni kitajski medicini rabljena že stoletja, pridobiva na priljubljenosti in prepoznavnosti kot oblika pomoči in način osvojitve boljše atletske zmogljivosti. Rabljena skupaj s konvencionalno obliko terapije, akupunktura znatno izboljša učinek zdravljenja športnih poškodb.
Cilj večine akupunkturnih zdravljenj športnikov je zvišati stopnjo fleksibilnosti, krvne cirkulacije in zbistriti misli. Pa vendar akupunkturna terapija ne bo nadomestila športnikovega ogrevanja, temveč ga kvečjemu dopolnila.

Akupunktura pozitivno vpliva na telesno in psihološko dobro počutje
Čeprav lahko določena raven tekmovalne anksioznosti poveča uspešnost, pa mnogi športniki z anksioznostjo doživljajo nenadzorovana negativna čustva in spoznanja, ki lahko močno vplivajo na njihovo uspešnost.
Akupunktura zmanjšuje nivo tesnobe pred tekmovanjem [11].
Endokrini in imunološki markerji so pokazali, da akupunktura učinkovito vpliva na telesno in mentalno dobro počutje športnikov med tekmovanjem [12].
Akupunktura prispeva k izboljšanju zmogljivosti in izvedbe s pozitivnim spreminjanjem atletovega subjektivnega dojemanja mišične napetosti in utrjenosti [13].

Acupuncture Improves Athletic Performance
Acupuncture, used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, is gaining popularity as a means of pursuing improved athletic performance. When combined with conventional medicine therapy, acupuncture largely improves the effect of treatment for sports injuries.
The goal of most athletic acupuncture treatments is to increase one’s flexibility, circulation, and mental clarity. The acupuncture treatment will not replace an athlete’s warm-up, but rather, complement it.
